Siting Your Pergola
Minimum Requirement
Our recommendation is a 400m 3 concrete block foundation [also called a concrete pad or concrete footing] beneath each of the leg posts. Ensuring the blocks are individually flat and level to each other is paramount as inconsistency will affect the end result
Concrete Slabs
If the slabs are level and soundly laid then fixing directly into them is acceptable. If the slabs are not sufficiently rigid then you should install the minimum requirement blocks of 400m 3
Timber or Composite Decking
If timber decking is flat, solid and in good condition then fixing directly into it is acceptable. If the decking is not adequate install the minimum blocks of 400m 3
Composite decking is not as solid as natural wood and therefore fixing directly into modern composite boards is not recommended. However, boards secured to substancial timber joists at each corner of the pergola is an acceptable solution
Turf, Soil or Loose Stone
Pergola legs cannot be fixed to any of the above. Therefore you must install the minimum requirement blocks of 400m 3
